Bridge Over Troubled Water has sold over 25-million copies worldwide (15 million since 1991) and was one of the biggest-selling albums of its decade, topping the charts world-wide. Perhaps the most delicately textured album to close out the 1960s from any major rock act, Bridge Over Troubled Water, at its most ambitious and bold, was a quietly reassuring album; at other times, it was personal yet soothing; and at other times still, it was just plain fun. It was certainly their most musically ambitious, with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "The Boxer" employing thundering drums and tasteful orchestration, and "Cecilia" marking one of Simon's first forays into world music rhythms. It also caught the confused, reflective tenor of the times better than almost any other popular release of 1970.

the remastered cd is great,then you get the live concert plus a dvd,

Brings back memories from a golden era of music. Like every album there's the odd poor track, but the bonus with this is the second cd of live tracks of some of their other magical songs

This special edition has made this major recording even better, remastering is par excellence and the bonus DVD throws light on the creative recording process and highlights the roles the engineer Roy Halee played as well as the ace backing band. There's also a doco featuring the turbulent times in America at the time of this recording's original release. This is album is an all time classic, startlingly poignant as it also turned out to be Simon and Garfunkel's final album. It's beautifully produced, every instrument and vocal has it's own space in the mix and of course the songs are crafted by an artist (Simon) at the height of his creative powers. This particular edition also comes with a free cd of the duo performing live, culled from various American shows in 1969. The free DVD which also accompanies this set contains two documentary films. 'Songs of America' - directed by the actor Charles Grodin - perfectly captures the troubled political times which affected America in the late 60s using newsreel footage making a powerful backdrop to the music. And 'The Harmony Game' which is compiled from archive footage of the recording of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' interspersed by comments and anecdotes from Simon and Garfunkel as they are today.

I had the turn the volmue up in the car. This is probably a good thing. I can't stand some of the bright recordings we've had inflicted on us over the past 10 years.
The quality of the material is first rate. Delicate phases of the music are rendered with perfection.
