Description

Closing Time are Matt Price (vocals) and Leon Chant (piano) the duo have been playing and writing together since 1999 and released their first CD "Where Shadows Fall" in 2000 - this album which was a purely acoustic affair created the building blocks for the Closing Time sound, the CD featured seven tracks mainly piano/vocal with additional instrumentation Violin, Sax and Flute provided by Leon's sister Saffron.

The album was received well by local music press with one journalist describing the songs as "emotionally charged" and the gigs which where performed were always a success as matt states "people in the audience listen to the songs and can relate to the lyrics, the passion in the songs are about experiences that I have felt and the music captures these emotions".

After the release of "Where Shadows Fall" and the gigs which ensued the duo decided to record their new material. The second release entitled "This Life" would extend the foundations of the duo's sound and as Leon states "When Matt and I wrote the songs on This Life we knew that they would need additional instrumentation to create the sound we both heard in our heads".

In August 2002 the recording for this life began and featured a number of named players Pete Riley (ex drummer with Republica amongst his many other credits), Al Vosper (Guitarist for Chris de Burgh, Paul Young and more recently Beverley Knight), Lee Morris (drummer for the London West end show FAME and The Rocky Horror) and Trevor Newnham (bass player for The Kursal Flyers).

This Life features ten tracks and as Matt commented "This Life was written about the way life and love seem to go round in endless circles" the album has been put together to reflect a storybook of different emotions. The songs range from the up tempo brass enfused opener "The Way You Love Me Everyday" and continue with different arrangements to reflect the mood of each song: "Someday (with it's funky Low-fi Gospel tinge), The Way I Am (smooth groove summer jazz), Old Friend (piano, vocals and string quartet - used to create a feeling of longing), The First Time (up tempo guitar pop) through to "Betrayed" (with it's passionate string arrangements and warm rich guitar melodies). The production of each song represents the content of the lyric as Leon has said "because of all the great musicians who gave their time to play on the album, we have been fortunate enough to be able to capture the true spirit of each song, each player has added their own personality to a song and given it a distinct sound".

Since the recording for "This Life" finished in October 2003 the duo are now arranging as many gigs (sometimes as a duo or sometimes with a full thirteen piece band) as possible to promote the CD, and are sending the finished product to Management and Record Companies, Radio Stations and Music Magazines. The aim is to try and get as many people as possible to hear the music and spread the Closing Time word as both Matt and Leon conclude "we want to make music our lives by writing, recording and performing new material. We both want to write music remains true to us but can touch another person's feelings."
