Andes: Indian Flutes
(Jewel Case Packaging)
Grupo Andino performs traditional music of the Andes on the typical instruments: sikú, zampoña, quena, charanga, and bombo. With it's vitality and authenticity, this is music with universal appeal. Andean music reflects the history and the successive cultures of that part of South America. The texts are generally related to Incan and Christian myths and beliefs. Native Indian music makes use of wind instruments (various panpipes, guana, rondador, pingullo, chirimia) and percussion (bomba and tinya). Spanish settlers brought with them new instruments - mostly strings (guitar, mandolin, violin) - that were soon adopted by the Indians.
