Product Notes

Born in Louisville, KY, Amoni Scarsayzie came to El Paso, TX at the age of nine. Amoni attributes his name to two major influences in his life, his seven-year-old son Kemoni (he is also a father to three-year-old twin sons Kamal and Kishaun) and the famous movie director Martin Scorsese. His first taste of hip-hop came as he listened to his neighbor play Public Enemy. It was then that Amoni realized that Hip-Hop was his calling. Listening to NAS, Mobb Deep, Rakim, Biz Markie and Digital Underground reinforced his passion. His high school years were filled with writing short stories and poems. After high school, Amoni began recording with a group called Mathematix, what was supposed to be El Paso's version of the Wu-Tang Clan. The group split up soon after claiming creative differences. He then teamed up with Mathematix producer Larry Overstreet where he got his first taste of the recording business, recording his first album Ghost In the Darkness. A virtual unknown at the time, the solo artist was left proud at having the opportunity to reveal his talent. Soon after this recording, Amoni was locked up for drug trafficking, spending the next year behind bars. Although he took advantage of the time by writing and reflecting, Amoni missed his children and friends. With his freedom taken away, Amoni realized the importance of family, and vowed never to place himself in that situation again. After his stint in prison, the rapper recorded his second album, Checkmate, which fared well in popularity. Opening up for big name artists Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and performing in the 'Cali Comm Tour' show, as well as showcasing his talent at local clubs Casa Verde, Capone's, Vallare, and Hiney's, Amoni was making a name for himself. While working on another project called Masterpiece Painting, which has yet to be released, Amoni impressed fans in the El Paso, Texas 2004 Battle of the Bands concert, taking home second place. It didn't take long for Jesus Reyes of Golden Rule Records to take notice of this up and coming talent. After watching his performances and liking the way he 'got down', Jesus, along with partner Tito Diaz signed him up. Amoni's latest CD, Heir to the Throne, features beats by Avoid, Swizz, and DJ Metronix. It is his quest to fill the throne of the late Notorious B.I.G., known as the King of New York and the recently retired Jay-Z. Versatile on many levels, the lyrics reflect Amoni's life experiences of street life, romance, family, and future. Currently working on Undeniable with new partner Smoke Screen, the CD is based on the theme 'You can't deny the music.' It is Amoni's way of promoting his talent to knock on the doors of major labels by declaring the music 'undeniable'. Until such time Amoni gets signed with a major record label, the artist plans to produce two CDs a year. By continuing a heavy workload and 'keeping his name out there', the rapper plans to be well prepared for bigger things to come.
