More Like You
Worshipful contemporary Christian style embracing pop, soft rock, gospel, and more. A great album for every listener! Christian singer/songwriter Ann Laurene has followed an unorthodox path into music ministry, all via professional figure skating. Although she grew up with formal piano training, she also showed a real talent for figure skating, so much so that her skating training put everything else on the back burner, with Ann eventually turning professional while still only in high school. Growing up in a Catholic family, religion was a part of Ann's life, but it seemed more a routine than a personal relationship. It was during her high school years that a close friend invited Ann to church. Her initial reaction was one of "that's great for you, but I'm not interested". However, after persistent (and loving) encouragement from her friends and (she later found out) lots of prayer on her behalf, Ann expressed a desire to go to church with them. She actually started to attend regularly with her friends and after about 6 months, through an emotional experience, Ann gave her life to Christ - and her life hasn't been the same since. No longer was God just "religion" or "routine", but now she had a living, personal relationship with her Saviour. God began to do many works in Ann's life, one of which was directing her to a path in music ministry - shortly after accepting Christ, Ann bought a guitar, and started to re-introduce herself to her musical talent. Also, as a result of her involvement in college with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, originally as an Event Coordinator, she eventually was led into a deeper and more committed involvement in leading worship and, from that, into music ministry. As Ann describes - 'How I ended up in music ministry is simply bonkers to me. I never even wanted to be part of music ~ which is cool, because God did all the work and I was along for the ride. He kept opening doors for me.' Ann discovered that, in addition to piano, guitar & voice, she also had a talent for songwriting, and in 2005 she recorded her first solo CD, entitled More Like You, which is also the title of the very first song that Ann ever composed. She describes the song as a prayer of how one longs to be closer to the One who created us, and her goal with the CD is to bring Truth to the listener and to encourage them to keep their eyes fixed on God. In addition to supporting her CD, Ann served as the Music Coordinator at Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota for 8 years. She is also an active member of the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) and is a Multi-Rated figure skating coach and professional to competitive skaters and teams throughout the Twin City Area.
