Another Sunday-Spirituals with Joe Lewis
Well known locally and abroad as one of the premier jazz saxophonist on the Gulf Coast. He performs on Tenor, Alto, and Soprano Saxophones as well as piano and flute. Genres of music include Standards, Jazz Standards, Swing, Be-Bop, Cool Jazz and the Blues. Playing professionally for over 50 years, the native Mobilian has backed artists such as Millie Jackson, Redd Foxx, and in concert with Ray Charles. He has recorded with renowned trombonist Fred Westley, the accomplished pianist Roy Merriwether and opened for Lou Rawles, Chemistry and Authur Prysock. He has also performed for audiences in Baden and Zurich, Switzerland and Yelapa, Mexico. Early in his career he was a member of the United States Air Force Band performing in the United States and Europe. He is also an accomplished producer, arranger, composer, and music instructor (saxophone, flute, clarinet, and piano). This CD is dedicated to my wife, Gwen. For all the patience, understanding, and encouragement it takes to be the wife of a musician. I've been trying to do a religious CD for over ten years, but for some reason (reasons), it just wouldn't happen. This was a very special effort to try again and with the help of some very talented people this time I pulled it off. I tried to mix the 'traditional' with a little contemporary so I could touch everybody. I hope this music will be inspirational to you as well as enjoyable listening.
