Belynda Shenk BIOGRAPHY From a very early age, Belynda knew she loved music. Before she even started school, her Granny had a platform built for her to sing on. As a child she would listen, dance, & sing to Patty Loveless, Mickey Gilley, Patsy Cline & Elvis Presley. Her favorite was Elvis. Belynda loved playing outside, where she would stack milk crates on top of each other & bang on them with sticks like they were drums and sing for the neighbors to hear. If she didn't know all the words then she would make up her own. Much like Elvis, Belynda was influenced in many genres of music as a child so her love of music is not limited to one style. Whether it be Country, Gospel or Rock & Roll, she can move you! In 7th grade, Belynda was Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz." She was chosen for best singing the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." She performed in all school programs from singing solos to dancing. In high school, she won many medals for vocals in state contests, & also performed in a band called "Guys & Dolls," that played for pay at many private & holiday parties for the surrounding area. She was nicknamed Belynda Benatar for her performance of Pat Benatar. Belynda was a Cheerleader from 8th to her senior year. In her sophmore, junior, & senior years, she was the only cheerleader in her class representing her class. Because of her enthusiasm to get her class fired up, they would win the "Most Spirited" during spirit week. In 1995, Belynda got to perform an original of hers at the Ryman Auditorium in a contest, getting 4th out of 128 contestants. Just being on stage at the Ryman where many of her favorite artists had once stood, was a big thrill for her. By 1996, Belynda had the opportunity to be on television performing 3 of her originals live on "The Morning Cup Show." In 1998 in Oklahoma, she won 1st Place for Vocal Ballad & 1st runner-up in the country divisions with an original song of hers. In 2005, with a song also written by Belynda, she won 1st place on the Internet, winning a $100,000 recording contract with Fowler All Night Sing. Then in July 2006 she received 1st place in Adult Female Country with USA World Showcase held at the Las Vegas MGM Grand. Belynda has performed at many festivals & fairs in bands where she has opened for Ricky Van Shelton, Andy Griggs, & Exile, & she has more than once shared the stage with Ricky Lynn Gregg. In April 2006, Belynda recorded a CD with her own music that is now available through her website belyndashenk.com. or Hastenings of Ardmore, Ok. For booking information log on belyndashenk.com.
