St-Jacques, Benoit : Between You & Me
A superb guitarist and singer with imaginative composing skills, Benoit is a veteran of the Columbia music scene. He was a founding member of the new-wave rock band The Glass Gnats in the 1980s and pushed his rock boundaries further with the band Psychotoy in the early 1990s. He explored reggae with the band Judgnot later in the decade. At the turn of the century, he shifted his attention to acoustic music and released an intriguing CD of songs based on the poetry of his father, Andre St. Jacques. The songs on "Seule Saison Que Je Tiens" are rich in Celtic tones, classical underpinnings and the traditional sounds of French-Canadian folk music. Benoit brings all these influences to "Between You and Me," an eclectic batch of songs that are lively, heartfelt, poignant and topical. I'm honored to have provided a lyrical - and sometimes musical - foundation for some of them. Michael Miller State newspaper.
