Son Is Shining
Like many musicians, Bill's first encounter with the music community took place in bands. During the late 60's and 70's, Bill played with numerous local Chicago acts including "The Electronic Fudgecicle" and "Broad Nickel". During this rapidly changing era, Bill had many experiences that built up his musical talents but his spiritual life was on hold. Although he had many opportunities as an alter boy and later as a player in folk masses to look deeper into spiritual matters, it wasn't until the proverbial "Jesus freak" picked him up hitch hiking that he began to listen to God very closely. Weeks later, Bill would call back to the home of the guy who picked him up only to find he had been killed in a car accident. This was Bill's first opportunity to witness and it was to be to the young man's father. It was clear that God had a plan for Bill's life and he was ready to listen in stereo. The Christian music scene was nearly non-existent so Bill took his message to the folk coffee houses throughout Chicago. Although many liked his tunes, it was very apparent to Bill that sharing his faith in this context was going to be tough. There was to be a couple more bands before Bill began to do a studio project that represented his faith in a totally open way. So in late 1991/92, songs began to come together and the recording "The Son is Shining" was given birth. While there were no avenues open for the songs, Bill then worked for ten years with a Chicago blues artist (Jimmie Lee Robinson) who passed in 2002. Fast forward to 2008. Bill finds himself in the middle of a revival, both musically and spiritually. Over the years Bill has developed a broad based musical vocabulary. His instrumentals may take you to the islands as the Calypso beat takes over. The next tune may draw from R & B roots with a little Motown thrown in. He may then offer up a Folk oriented tune that draws people into worship. These are unique times and Bill Langlotz has a unique musical and spiritual perspective. His recording will take you back and push you forward as he brings together a history of experiences both musical and relational that bring a brokenness and joy to his giftedness. Indeed, for Bill Langlotz, the Son is Shining! Check him out, you just might feel some of the warmth of his faith and message.
