Postcards from Avalon
Take two women who both teach chemistry at the local university, hand them each an acoustic guitar - maybe a conga or bass - mix vigorously and poof! The result is the sound of two worlds colliding: the amazing finger-style picking of Carol Lowell, with her folk roots and insightful lyrics, and the sexy, bluesy vocals of Kristen Black, who will lay down a funky rockin' groove and rewire your head for sound. Their eclectic collection of original songs features strong, weaving harmonies and sweet acoustic riffs. Not long after the pair began playing together, a local patron of the arts came forward insisting they create an album together. Kristen and Carol enthusiastically headed into Avalon Studio and put together their first collaborative effort: Postcards from Avalon. Though each has been performing as a solo artist for years and each has a solo CD to her credit, the opportunity to experiment as a duo in the music lab was irresistible. Postcards is a compilation of acoustic gems guaranteed to leave you wondering why oil and vinegar don't mix but taste so damned good together.
