Play as a pop star, party like a Perry

Katy supporting herself

The Sims. You must have heard of this video game series by now. It has been one of the most addictive games in the past decade where you spend your time making a fictitious character’s life so much better than yours.

I can’t count the amount of times I would be playing that game and say to myself “Oh, just half an hour more” when playing to suddenly see four hours had passed.

There have been three main Sims games, along with a plethora of expansion packs and side games to keep the series going. Just when I thought The Sims was starting to slow down, the creators decided to make another expansion pack.

In the game your character could get a job as one of many things, with careers choices ranging from culinary to criminal. The Sims: Ambitions expansion pack added firefighting, ghost hunting, and various other workplaces for your digital persona to work as.

Now you can add pop star to that list. And not just any pop star. Coming this march is the newest expansion, Sims: Showtime.

To get the series that lives off expansion packs, Mrs. (well I guess it’s Ms. now) Katy Perry has been thrown in the game for the special edition version, along with her hair types and other in-game additions.

It’s not the first celebrity-endorsed game. In fact, there’s a compilation video with the top 10 worst celebrity-endorsed video game.

Which person, whether it be celebrity or musician or artist that’ll never become mainstream, would you love to play a simulated version of?

Maybe you’ll want to avoid paparazzi by wagging your Nintendo Wii controller, or possibly using your XBox Kinect camera to work your magic on a photoshoot.

If the Kinect had the ability to take photos of you while looking like a fool, that would make for a great photo album. Our faces sure look strange when playing games.

Body and soldering

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

IT men never looked so good.

I’ve gotten my hands on the latest Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which deals with a not-too-distant future of human body augmentations.

The game itself is the amazing addition to the original game that was loved by so many back when it first came out on PCs in 2000.

These days the types of content created for marketing purposes to sell games, movies and such are becoming more inventive.

Whether it’s great commercials, giveaways, interactive internet games or even a funny video, it’s getting a lot of buzz around upcoming titles, and I for one am a nosy sort when it comes to this.

Looking forward to the game I now hold in my hand (well, was holding in my hand before I had to get back to work), I was watching trailers and trying to get a sense of what I was in for.

Here’s Deus Ex’s cool piece of marketing work with their documentary made surrounding real-life body augmentations, and where we’re heading at in the hopefully-not-as-grim future as the game has portrayed so far:

If you could have an augmentation, what would you get?

War Front: Turning Point – WW11 Game for the PC

    Saturday, April 5th, 2008

War_frontWar Front – Turning Point has just hit the game shelves for all you PC gamers out there.
    Recently released as
Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty on both PS3 and Xbox360 platforms, the game makes it’s PC debut.

This is a WWII fighting game with a difference, it is based around a true incident that happened in New York in 1931 when Winston Churchill was hit by a taxi.
In reality he survived to lead Great Britain into the war against Nazi Germany, but what would have happened if he had not?
This game follows that bizarre scenario, and without his leadership the UK falls into the hands of the Third Reich in 1940. This gives the Germans time to develop their weapons, Jet Fighters and Atomic Bombs to name a few, which upsets the yanks, and in 1953 the now well prepared army leads an attack on America… fierce controversial stuff!

Turning_point_screenshotThe player assumes the role of Dan Carson, up until now an average New York construction worker, who is caught up in the initial German invasion of his city.
However unlike other games Dan is not trying to win the war, he is trying to survive! He first tries to escape from New York and somehow manages to get to Washington where he joins the resistance. His adventure leads him eventually to London where he must find and destroy the bomb that threatens his country. Exciting stuff!

There are a couple of great things about this game, firstly the clever use of real life monuments as seen today, mainly getting blown up of course! The Chrysler Building, White House and London’s Tower Bridge all make appearances.
And then there is the way that the game includes many advanced versions of weapons that were either in design or actually used in WWII, Huge Tanks, Massive Zeppelin’s, Attack Blimps and Vulcan style Bombers to name a few. WOW!
If you enjoyed: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Medal Of Honour, End War, Army Of Two…. You get the picture! This is a must for your collection.

Fancy something a bit different? Then check out the Games Major Release Calender at CD WOW!
