Description

All Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) wants to be is a great scientist. He started inventing since he was a little kid, but always fell just short of success. Living in the town of Swallow Falls has become unenjoyable ever since the Baby Brent Sardine cannery was closed. Only left with the super-gross sardines to eat, the town craves something more than sardines. That’s where Flint’s brilliant mind finally creates a device that can turn water into food.

Sam Sparks is looking for her big break as a weather girl, and when sent out to cover the unravelling of Sardine Land, her dreams are crushed when Flint’s food machine turns into a rocket and shoots into the sky. But before either of them can fully grasp the situation, a hamburger falls from the sky.

The film’s origins came from the book of the same name. The writers of the script wanted a disaster film homage, and they delivered.

This film is choc-full of great actors lending their voice to digital counterparts. Mr. T’s Earl Devereaux character once again puts the great man into a role we can all love. Andy Samberg from The Lonely Island plays a child icon-turned-lazy slob cashing in on his past fame. Neil Patrick Harris’ part as the monkey who can speak from one of Flint’s inventions is brilliant. You’ll never say the name “Steve” the same again.

The Blu-ray edition not only upgrades the film to a high definition quality, but also comes with special features that explores the making of the film, and how this masterpiece of a movie came together. Bill Hader and the writers/directors commentary track is also a hoot.
