Description

Finally, for the first time, all three original theatrical versions of The Lord Of The Rings come alive in high definition Blu-ray! See the epic trilogy the way it was meant to be seen with the complete box set containing The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return Of The King!

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil. In the films, Frodo and his fellowship of friends and allies embark on a desperate journey to rid Middle-earth of the source of Sauron's greatest strength, the One Ring -- a ring that has the power to enslave the inhabitants of Middle-earth. The trilogy tells tales of extraordinary adventures across the treacherous landscape of Middle-earth and reveals how the power of friendship, love and courage can hold the forces of darkness at bay. Beside Wood, the films star Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, featuring Sean Bean, and Ian Holm, with Andy Serkis as Gollum. The films also star Marton Csokas, Craig Parker and Lawrence Makaoare.

The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring: In a time before history, in a place called Middle-earth, a dark and powerful lord has brought together the forces of evil to destroy its cultures and enslave all life caught in his path. Sauron's time has come and he needs only one small object - a Ring that has been lost for centuries - to snuff out the light of civilization and cover the world in darkness...

The Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers: The fellowship is now divided with Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John-Rhys Davies) helping to restore some order to the land of King Theodon (Bernard Hill), whose mind has been poisoned by the machinations of Grima Wormtongue (Brad Dourif). Wormtongue is a secret emissary of wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee), now ready to unleash his army of the night on Middle-Earth. Meanwhile, Frodo (Elijah Wood) is falling deeper under the dreaded influence of The Ring, as he journeys with Sam (Sean Astin) towards Mordor...

The Lord Of The Rings - The Return Of The King: It is time. For Frodo to overcome the wickedness of Gollum, the horrifying attack of the colossal arachnid Shelob and the soul-twisting allure of a ring that resists destruction. For Aragorn to take up the sword of his forebears and the crown of his birthright. For the mighty clash that wizard Gandalf calls "the great battle of our time." And for the inspired culmination of the films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's literary classic. For the third time, a Rings movie was a Best Picture Academy Award nominee and for the first time it claimed that prize (plus 10 more). The King deserves its crown.

Comments about Lord of the Rings Trilogy Boxset:

There's never been a better "good versus evil" epic story than Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. I read all 1000+ pages of it as a kid and was completely bowled over by it. I saw the movies as they came out in the cinema; saw a couple of them again, more recently on TV; but when I spotted this blu-ray box set, I had to have it! My Xmas treat to myself. Go on, go on, go on - just buy it. Watch it all in as quick succession as possible: 3 nights, 3 films, or even better, get the snacks ready, get the fire crackling, and pull an all-nighter!

And oh yeah, the blu-ray version is totally worth it for the stunning picture detail and the Dolby DTS-HD 7 channel sound. It's so close to the visual limit of the medium that the CGI detail actually begins to look better than the conventionally shot film.

About the only complaint one could have about Peter Jackson's LOTR movies is that they fall into some unfortunate Hollywood "must-have" traps. So there must be a "love interest", which means that Arwen's role as the hero Aragorn's love is way overplayed in comparison to the original book. And there must be some "comic relief", which means that Gimli the dwarf is depicted in a semi-ridiculous manner, and he and Legolas play out cliched "I'm scoring a higher body-count than you" jokery in the middle of the most gripping battles - which just plain undermines their seriousness.

But overall it's pretty awesome, and deserves all those Oscars.
