Product Notes

Brad is the type of songwriter who not only composes beautiful ballads but also writes foot-tappin' sing-alongs that will linger in your head for days. For this album he has assembled a top-notch band of musicians known for their work with some of today's finest recording artists including Lyle Lovett, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, James Taylor, Randy Newman, Joni Mitchell, The Ditty Bops, k.d.lang and Bonnie Raitt. So if you like those artists, you'll dig this... Fifteen songs explore a number of musical influences, including country, blues, New Orleans jazz, celtic and even gospel. The result is a timeless album that moves you from start to finish. Swinging arrangements turn up the heat on barnburners such as "Waco" and "Headin' South For The Winter." The songs "If Heartaches Were Like Dollars (I'd Be a Millionaire)" and "Lend Me An Ear Van Gogh" illustrate his clever writing style. The sparse "Desert In Bloom," the haunting ballad "Slowly Away," and the instant classic "This Old Car" sound like vintage lullabies. Brad played guitar, mandolin and banjo. He's joined by John Lambdin on fiddle and lap steel guitar and Greg Leisz on dobro and pedal steel guitar. Greg Rutledge added his piano, keys and accordion while Arnold McCuller sang most of the background vocals. Austin Nicholsen snapped his stand-up bass, Jack Willoughby pounded on his drums and Tina Guo sweetly played her cello. Brad released his first solo CD The Last Drive-In Movie on Arena Records in 1996. The all-acoustic album received attention for it's title track, a poignant spoken word tribute to the vanishing Drive-In Movie tradition.
