Come Sit By My Chair
Brendan Taaffe ...an excellent singer, fiddler and guitarist deeply grounded in tradition... Peter Amidon ... his honest and deeply felt approach makes him a pleasure to play with and listen to... With the release of his first album Come Sit By My Chair, Brendan Taaffe has declared himself a polished musician, grounded in the traditions of Ireland and the Americas but with his own, fresh perspective. Spanning songs from the British Isles, Finland and the old-time tradition, and a wealth of fiddle tunes from Ireland and his own fertile imagination, Come Sit By My Chair is a richly colored quilt of music, featuring guest appearances by Pete Sutherland, Brian Perkins, Roger Kahle, and Brad Hurley. The overall effect is like a Japanese garden-nothing overstated, but a treasure in every nook and cranny. The son of an Irish immigrant, Brendan grew up immersed in traditional music. As a young man he returned to sit at the feet of master players like Tommy Peoples and Brendan McGlinchey, and has studied with Randal Bays and Máire O'Keefe. The hours of devotion have paid off-his fiddle is warm, his voice dynamic, and his guitar and banjo playing smooth and supportive. In concert, Taaffe is a relaxed and comfortable performer, inviting you to come in and stay a while, for the music will be just fine.
