Bryan Timothy Johnston was born in July 1958 in California. He began writing songs at the age of 16, sitting around living rooms and beach fires. He received an AA degree from Palomar College in Music. He went on to study at UCSD and received a BA in Music Composition. He has played in coffee shops, extended care facilities for the developmentally disabled, old folks homes, parties, benefits for abused children, public radio, dances, and at many beaches and surf spots throughout California, Mexico, and Hawaii. Songs from his debut CD Barefoot Rebel got airtime on the rock and roll radio station KUPR. His music is driven by the lyrics. His songwriting style is based in playing the guitar and vocalizing. The songs the lyrics come from the interaction of the vocal sounds and the guitar. Barefoot Rebel was recorded in part because jazz guitarist/music producer Peter Sprague was willing to record it. The musicians on the recording are world class as is the recording and mastering. Bryan has written and recorded over 500 songs. The title to his debut CD "Barefoot Rebel" came out of his experience living on the street for a few seasons. He lives on the Rincon Indian Reservation in Southern California.
