Buddy Ross & Vile
'Growin' up among the tallest of the evergreens...' Buddy Ross and Vile are an unusual hip hop duo. Though they met in the Pacific Northwest, their music is more universal. Their story is as follows: Before meeting Buddy Ross, the Vile mc was given a guitar passed down from his grandfather. The instrument was the same model played by jazz pioneer Charlie Christian. Vile believed the guitar to have special powers, as the songs he would write with it were different than anything he had done before. The fuzzy electric guitar became a background for his storytelling which had evolved into his own style of rap music. But the sound was raw, and needed a quality of production that could help the MC shine. Enter Buddy Ross, the enigmatic producer who had been perfecting his own musical vision. Learning to play the piano by backing a church choir, he found himself emersed in a gospel style that he would carry with him always. But he was always tempted by the devil's music, programming his Roland synth with dark tweaked-out beats. After splitting from his past, Buddy had only his keys game to guide him. The two musicians, each on the verge of a breakthrough, joined forces to create their hip hop equivalent of a space exploration mission. This mission would be their allegorical attempt to define Buddy Ross and Vile as well as the universe they found themselves in.
