S4C: Sugar Coated Caramel Confectioners Cream
They've been doing it since early High School and now C.C.I. (Candy Catchers, Inc.) is ready for their release. Like a pit bull from it's chain, Special Kind and Conscious Mind are heading straight for the gut of the industry. Hailing from the Port City itself, Shreveport, LA, and aiming to tackle the task of being true to music and banging hits in the streets, these two young 'derelicts of dialect' blend their opposing voices into a chorus of Highs and Lows...Ups and Downs...Bright and Dark...Sweet and Sour...which by no coincidence is the essence of their sound. Special Kind (legal name: Kedrick Stith)...he's the 5 foot 2, cool, calm, collective cat keeping it kosher, comfortable, and capable of captivating bicoastal. He insists on proving to the world that he's 'the best thing to ever happen to rhyme schemes, and dimes' jeans.' Shawt (as he is called by friends) describes their style as Southern Hip Hop with a blend of worldwide flavor, otherwise, Candy Catcher music. Don't let his size fool you. Small stature but large in nature, he is known to control tracks like a train conductor. Born Kedrick Stith, January 30, 1979 in Camden, Arkansas. He ventured to Shreveport, La in 1993 and has been holding it down for the boot every since. A water bearing Aquarian (along with Conscious), Shawt relies on his distinctive sound, and over eight years experience to do damage to the senses. In the face of adversity this gifted emcee has been able to overcome any and all obstacles placed in his path. Engaged in a winning battle with Sickle Cell, he says that no matter how bad things get, nothing could ever bring him down. By no means should Conscious Mind (legal name: Mark Wheeler) be mistaken for his alias. His preferred moniker, C.O.N., represents the alternate nature most people show to the face of society. Born and raised in Shreveport (aside from a brief stint in California) he graduated from C.E. Byrd High School, c/o '98 (as did Special Kind). At twenty-two years old C.O.N. has often been accused of trying to sound like he's from the East Coast. In response, he states that he ' just tries to bring something else to the table besides the usual meat and potatoes.' He says that the biggest learning experience for him has been his time in the Army and going off to school in New Orleans. 'They both taught me patience and how not to take something for granted.' Besides music he also has pursuits in poetry, theater, and philosophy. Why philosophy? 'To be a philosopher you just need an opinion about everything.' It certainly seems as though C.O.N. has that down; now he focuses on what he can do about where hip-hop is going. 'If I could just get one ear to listen...'
