On the Farm
When asked about the name, Don replied, "We play mostly a bluesy kind of music with our own bent so we decided on the name 'The Chickens of Depression'. It is kind of hard to classify our music genre because it has so many influences including blues and rock, but also some elements of country and jazz as well.' Way back in 1976 Don (Frog Bowie) Hunter, Dave (Lucky) Seamon, and Steve (Bad Bart) Nordell played in another band together. Their music was on the leading edge of the country/rock craze that was sweeping the nation at that time. Their repertoire contained an interspersing of music they had written themselves. Their band, Stampede, was very well received. Frog Bowie, Lucky, and Bad Bart remained friends over the years. When all of them got together in September 2007, the original music Lucky and Frog had been playing as the Chickens of Depression fit in perfectly with Bart's funky guitar style. Bassist Steve (F#) Foster was invited to join in as well. They immediately took off on blues/rock jams, playing off of each others licks and tunneling from the ever-evolving musical cosmos.
