Reflections of the City
'A lot of fire and energy.' - David Liebman. 'Christian is a real musical storyteller' - Chris Rosenberg. Both adventurous and accessible, the Christian Pincock Quintet seeks to push the boundaries of jazz while reaching out to it's audience. The music is progressive jazz at heart with flavors of rock, classical, hip-hop, and more adventuresome sounds mixed in. The music can be intense and exciting, or dark and moody, however it is always in motion, rarely settling down for long. 'Progressive jazz can sometimes have a tendency to ignore the audience, whether intentionally or not.' says trombonist and composer Christian Pincock. 'My goal is to compose and perform music which is artistically sound and present it in a way that people can relate to.' The members of the quintet are all New York-based musicians with active performing careers outside the quintet. Members have played with musicians such as Slide Hampton, Betty Carter, and Daniela Mercury, and have performed at venues such as the Knitting Factory, Birdland, the 55bar, and the Jazz Standard. About the musicians: CHRISTIAN PINCOCK, valve trombone, composer, arranger Christian has been an active musician in both New York and Boston for years and enjoys pursuing vastly different musical situations. In addition to the quintet, he leads a 17-piece jazz big band of his original music and records electronic music using samples and synthesizers. He has performed in festivals such as the Sacramento Jazz Festival, the Louis Armstrong International Jazz Competition, and at venues such as Birdland, The New Yorican Poet's Cafe, Niagara, and the Kennedy Center. Christian holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from New England School of Music where studied with Bob Brookmeyer and a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music where he studied with David Taylor and Steve Turre. In addition to the Quintet, Jesse can be heard with various groups at venues such as The Jazz Standard, Smoke, and the 55bar. MOPPA ELLIOT, bass After a brief flirtation with the trombone in his youth, Moppa became enamored with the electric bass, and then later by it's acoustic counterpart. His journey has taken him to Oberlin College and Oberlin School of Music to study, and then to New York City where he has been fortunate to play and record with many great musicians and teach at St. Mary's High School. Moppa is currently working on producing his second CD with his own group. JEREMY NOLLER, drum set In addition to the Christian Pincock Quintet, Jeremy performs in groups led by Jesse Stacken and Christopher Madsen. Jeremy has experience in both the jazz and classical realms, having studied with such artists as William Moersch, Bunky Green, Kevin Bales, and John Riley.
