With Quiet Intensity
Christine Arens began classical piano training at age seven in upstate New York. However, since she discovered she could also play by ear, her performing interests have always been diverse - ranging from Beethoven, to Broadway, to Billy Joel. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in piano performance and a master's in music education from Belmont University in Nashville, TN, Christine moved to central Florida and began working as a freelance musician. She played a wide range of music in lounges, piano bars, country clubs and resorts, until landing a gig as a singer/pianist for Star Clipper Cruise Lines in the summer of 1992. Back on land, Christine continued solo engagements while building a small piano teaching studio. It was during this time that she began to compose at the piano: "I knew that I wanted to move solo piano into the 21st century...not only making my listeners feel, but also making them think. I really wanted to take them places they knew they had never 'seen', while still being respectful of the tradition of musical form...that's definitely the classical musician in me.... The colors within the piano's 'voice' are incredible. In my writing, I love to find new harmonies which take audiences down new paths, and then bring them home with a new perspective." It was during her six-year engagement as pianist at the Orlando Marriott Downtown that listeners began to ask about her compositions, and wanted to know where a recording was available. "With Quiet Intensity" was the end result, and listeners have enjoyed it all over the world. Christine is published by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company. Her next CD will be released in December 2008.
