Clemons & Johansen Official Bio Clemons & Johansen is a singer/songwriter duo formed in 2001 to write and record original material spanning several genres, including Rock, Country, Pop, Latin and Blues. All songs are co-written and feature Joe Irey Clemons on lead vocals (lyrics) and Carl Johansen on guitars (plus production, bass & keyboards). To date, they have completed three original CD's. "Down on the Corner of Wrong and Right" was released in 2003, featuring the country rocker "Cold Cold Home", and is available through CDbaby.com. Their current effort, "American Lowlands" was just released in Jan. 2007. The sound features layered vocals and guitars, while staying true to their Southeast Texas roots. Joe and Carl's musical association began in 1998, as members of the Houston based, blues rockin' bar band "Shaken Not Stirred". The band explored their musical influences and was a finalist in the 2000 Houston Blues Competition, sponsored by the Houston Blues Society. Their collaboration in this band and the desire to take their musical career to another level lead to the formation of Clemons & Johansen. Now, something about the individuals... Carl Johansen began his "garage period" when he picked up the guitar during the psychedelic 60's. Quickly mastering his instrument lead to a series of cover bands and a two-year gig as guitar instructor. While in college completing an electrical engineering degree, Carl developed a life long fascination with recording and music production, which continues to serve the duo today. The demands of career and family cut short Carl's live music endeavors, but afforded world travel and expanded musical tastes. A stable career in Houston, Texas in the 80's and the blues scene in Austin rekindled the desire to perform live and the circle began again. Today, his tastes center on Americana, with occasional flashbacks of heavy guitar. Joe Irey Clemons was born and raised in Houston,Texas. His family roots are from a long line of talented musicians from the Mississippi Delta and East Texas areas. Joe began his musical journey as a drummer/back-up vocalist, but soon found his true calling singing lead vocals, touring and playing with numerous rock and blues bands in the Texas and Southern Region circuits. He dabbled in acting with a couple of small roles in movies filmed in the Houston area, but soon returned to his musical roots playing showcases in such places as the legendary Rockefellers, Fitzgeralds, Billy Blues and numerous other venues around the Houston area with such bands as Vicious Circles and (C.O.P.) Circle of Power, Shaken not Stirred, etc. After taking several years off he teamed up with Carl Johansen to form Clemons/Johansen and write and record their original material. Joe keeps his life and music balanced by Faith, Family and Friends.
