Product Notes

It all started in 2001 at a run down dairy barn on the outskirts of Waco, TX where guitarist Josh McCook had created a make-shift studio to rehearse in. Soon after, drummer Richard Johnson and guitarist Roger Cullens joined in on the project to form the first incarnation of Swamp Cricket. Soon after, Roger left Swamp Cricket to pursue other ventures. Jason Olson, who was a frequent visitor of the dairy barn to watch the band play, usually sat in for informal vocal sessions since the band had no singer. There was a bass guitar sitting in the corner that became an instrument of interest for Jason. With a little a help from Josh, Jason managed to teach himself how to play bass guitar in a very short period of time. Richard was a self taught drummer also trying to sharpen his chops during this time. Swamp Cricket, however, was short lived with Josh and Jason latching on with Nedpepper, a small group from Aquilla, TX. Nedpepper consisted of guitarist Drew Bearden, vocalist Matt Cox, and drummer Luke Montgomery who had attended Aquilla High School together. Drew grew up watching his father play guitar and had taken to the instrument at a young age citing Led Zeppelins' Jimmy Page as his main inspiration. Matt had grown up singing in the local church choir with an interest in different genres of music including pop, rock, and country. Luke began playing drums after Drew had approached him about filling the vacancy behind the kit. After Jason and Josh were added to the mix, Nedpepper gigged around the central Texas area before changing their name to Stillhouse for legal reasons. Stillhouse disbanded late in 2002 citing musical and creative differences. A few months later, Josh and Jason began putting together a new project reenlisting drummer Richard Johnson. The search for a vocalist was a less than enjoyable experience until vocalist Matt Cox emerged at auditions one night to end all speculation. Drew Bearden came on board to round out what would be known as Outkold. Outkold played shows in the central Texas area throughout 2003 before going on a hiatus that lasted for nearly three years. But now, in 2006, Outkold has made a triumphant return to the stage.
