The goal is simple: play hard, even while playing softly. In any tournament, becoming consolation champ takes resilience and passion. The Twin Cities' Consolation Champ has both, as well as a collection of catchy songs to listen, dance and sleep to. It is important to note that Consolation Champ competes in both individual and team rock n roll tournaments. In individual events, Consolation Champ is singer-songwriter John Richards performing his folk-pop tunes with just himself and a guitar. He has been performing solo around the US and the UK for the past six years. In team events, Richards is joined by Matt Mitchell on bass, Chris Mitchell on lead guitar and Rick Nordquist on drums to create an energetic rock trio rich with harmonies and competitive fire. September 2006 marked the release of the debut album, "The Invitational." A veteran of the Minneapolis club scene, Consolation Champ has been venturing across the country of late playing shows and making new friends. A fall tour toward the Rocky Mountains inspired the new EP 'Lobos Pattern,' which is set for a March 2008 release followed by another western tour.
