Daddy jazz is selftaught keyboardist with a variety of musical influences such as Sade, Prince, Ronnie Laws and Earth Wind & Fire. After working a variety of R&B singers and rappers a sound called 'Groove Jazz' was created. Curtis Allen A.K.A Daddy Jazz was born and raised Bessemer, Ala the youngest of seven. In elementary school, little Daddy Jazz had a knack for playing beat on the classroom desktop, and even on bathroom walls. He claims that the best sound came from the hallway phone booth, but the teachers didn't think so. In junior high the love of creating beats persuaded him to join the school band. His dream was to play the drum, but the band director told his parents he would make a good saxophone player. That didn't stop bad boy Daddy Jazz. According to him, 'when ever the band director would leave the room, I would commandeer two snare drum and start jamming. The teacher caught me a couple of time, but he never caught on to the fact, that I liked playing the drums'. At the beginning of high school, his reputation for kicking beats had followed him. As fate would have it, the same band director at junior high was now the band director at high school. According to Daddy Jazz, 'that wasn't the nail in the coffin, I stopped pursuing the drum after I had the opportunity to play a FIVE ! Piece drum set . One night after the jazz band had performed, everybody was telling this drummer that I was good on the drums, so the drummer handed me the sticks and stepped back, I never play a five piece drum set before. When I sat down, I was lost. I couldn't do anything. Everybody was shocked. After that, I was through with the drums, and I moved on to football'. As Daddy Jazz matured, the passion for playing beats had faded away. He was more focus on electronic, than anything else. That changed when the affordable keyboards came out . Daddy Jazz realized he could create all the beats and sound he wanted to hear. According to Daddy Jazz,' those cheap keyboards unleashed the creativity inside of me, so I moved up to Awai semi pro keyboard'. After getting his Awai keyboard he performed his first concert. People were blown away by his one man band and three females dancing to an up tempo jazz like groove. As the years past, Daddy Jazz had acquired more equipment. At the same time he was working with other artists in the area, but nothing materialized. In 1995 Daddy Jazz moved to Atlanta. His hopes were to land a production deal or anything that would get him in the business. As fate would have it, he was forced to move back to Alabama. He said his time in Atlanta opened his eyes to the seriousness of the music business. Seeing and hearing about people getting manipulated, persuaded him start his own label. After few trail and errors, in recording, Daddy Jazz says 'he's ready for the world'.
