He was acclaimed by audition as the number 2 chair in the Texas State Private School Choir for four years in a row. Through invitation, the Oakridge Choir was twice allowed to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City, performing Mozart Requiem and Carmina Burana. At the age of 15 he started his stage career with the local theater, "Kids Who Care" playing Gad in Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. At age 16, he became the single high school student to study with Mr. Burr Phillips, Associate Professor of Southern Methodist University and studied with him throughout high school. Following high school, Dane was admitted to The New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) in Boston. There he studied with the internationally recognized vocal instructor, Mr. Edward Zambara.
