Voyages Into the Unknown Synthland
This music is decidedly different. First of all it is completely instrumental. No vocals here, or a guitar, or even a real, acoustic instrument was used in these songs. This wasn't intentional at first, but seemed appropriate as each new song was composed, or revealed. The songs sort of wrote themselves, being the fruits of my weekly dedication to sequencing over a time span of about six months, with the gentle support of a kind woman, my wife, Jennene. Sometimes the music is symphonic, being full and rich with the sounds of horns, strings, timpani and woodwind instruments, not to mention instruments imagined. At other times the music is intimate with only one voice, perhaps a piano delicately carrying the thread of musical consciousness with a light, stacatto note, or a percussion instrument resonating, defining our linear existence before us. But this music could be at home played by a rock band, or a jazz combo or by a solo pianist. The true heart of "Voyages" is the mood it creates rather than just the sound, and no attempt was made to try and constrain the compositions to a particular genre. Intended to be a "headphone" recording, the importance is to take the listener on a musical and mystical journey with each song unfurling something hidden and new after multiple listens. Is this new revelation imagined, or is it something created by the listener's mind? Perhaps a repeated listen will tell! Enjoy!
