Worship for the Inner Man
David Grant was born in Brooklyn New York in 1976. At the young age of four years old he received his first drum set. Having a father who was a well known music director and organist, David traveled along side his father as a drummer. Learning about gospel music and how to play the many styles of gospel he became a well rounded musician. He grew up listening to James Cleveland and Andre Crouch and would imitate the rythms on the drums. At fourteen David became the main drummer at Revival Tabernacle Church in Brooklyn. He later developed an hunger for the organ and began to practice on his father's organ at home in Queens New York. He went to school for music and studied choir directing with Alonzo Bain at Miami Dade Community College. David became the main pianist for the Miami Dade Community College Gospel Choir. While at MDCC he also studied jazz with Jim Gasior and Dr. Candace Wheeler. David practices about three to five hours daily. He was also accepted into the music department at Florida Atlantic University, for commercial music degree. David also has a bachelor of arts in small business management from Trinity International University. There were many influences that shaped the sound of David Grant. Artist like Stevie Wonder, Micheal Jackson, Marvin Winans. Hip hop was also a big influence as well as LL Cool J, Al B Sure, New Edition, Keith Murray, Fresh Prince, Eric B and Rakim. Modern artist as Jill Scott, Lauren Hill (his favorite), Robin Thicke. Just to name a few. David was also influenced by great musicians such as Art Tatum, Chick Corea, Pj Morgan, Oscar Peterson, Roland Grant (his father), Herbie Hancock, Yovann Pierre (in New york), and many more. With all of these influences David has developed his own type of Gospel. It's Neosoul with gospel or as he calls it 'Neospel.' The new sound of gospel music, or praise and worship with a twist. David has grown as a producer, songwriter, psalmist and well trained musician. God has also called him to ministry. He currently serves as music director for The Way Fellowship Church in Pembroke Pines Florida. David is married to his beautiful wife of eight years, Nancy and together they have three handsome boys.
