Man Behind the Wheel
David Rutland grew up in the rural agricultural based town of Lampasas, TX. Farming, cattle ranching, and music had been a mainstay for him since childhood. Through David's early years his musical taste were being molded by the music of Bob Wills, George Strait, and the hymnals in the Church of Christ songbook. After graduating from Lampasas High School he left the hay fields of Lampasas County to attend college at Abilene Christian University where he taught him self to play guitar and then began writing songs. From there he went to Texas A&M University to finish his education with a degree in Agribusiness. While there he formed a band with Josh McVey, Jeff Jones, and Corby Schaub who added a slight rocky/blues edge to David's songs. They went to the studio after 9 months of playing the College Station, TX scene and recorded The Man Behind the Wheel. The album includes appearances by Lloyd Maines and Jason Roberts. Music on the album was best described by Corby Schaub as Texas Country Blues Rock. The David Rutland Band shared the stage with artists such as Pat Green, Cory Morrow, The Bellamy Brothers, and John Conlee.
