Product Notes

Aside from some effects and sound-enhancement tools, all of the instrumentation for this CD was created by a single human voice. Others have now begun using this technique--the vocal mimicking of instruments to create a unique, instrumental sound--but because this particular project is unquestionably a form of ambient music (or 'mood music'), the artist would like to acknowledge Bobby McFerrin as a direct influence. Select Hip Hop artists throughout the 80's, responsible for implementing the basis for this method, were also a significant influence. -fatelessmusic.com (A Cam-bi-ent = a cappella ambient music) Recorded and produced by Dean de Benedictis. Cover design and photos by Dean. Tracks 3 and 4 mixed by Loren Nerell. The following people have also helped recent projects, undeniably: Robert Olivier, Lisa Claire, Vic Hennegan, Richard De Benedictis, Brian De Benedictis and Aaron Raab. -Dean de Benedictis formed his discography with an introspective brand of electronica full of literary and mystical references. His musical work is one of continued engagement. With clear phrasing, pacing and feeling, his realizations are infused with both thought and spirit. De Benedictis records under his own name and as Surface 10, and founded an electronic community in Los Angeles called the Fateless Flows Collective. In 1996 De Benedictis released a self-titled debut CD on Hypnotic Records under the alias Surface 10, gaining him wide recognition in the electronic ambient genre. ________________ Subsequent releases with DiN, Space for Music and Spotted Peccary were his testament to the electronic music world and epitomized the mystery of existence through technology. The dense layers of texture frequently part to reveal astonishing knots of melody lurking beneath the surface. Each track slides between themes in dazzling attention to detail, and rewards repeated listening. But this music is more than mere techno-gimmickry. De Benedictis infuses his music with an emotional content that defies it's cutting edge methodology by projecting a series of personal moments and experiences onto the sonic canvas. -Chuck Van Zyle, 2001 (Star's End) ________________ Artist: Dean de Benedictis Album: A Cambient Variations Released: 18 October 2008 Label: Fateless Music A Cambient Variations Dean de Benedictis: Dean de Benedictis has found his voice, and on A Cambient Variations (75'15') uses it on every track. Utilizing a variety of processing techniques, human vocal sound is layered into chords, shifted into choirs, looped into rhythms and stretched into unrecognizable textures. Obstruents become percussion riffs, grunts and groans make bass grooves and rhythm accents, while ethereal 'oohs' and breathy 'aahs' are transformed into a mysterious resonating atmosphere. Squeaks mutate into roars and whispered words resound under a cavernous echo as De Benedictis, using editing software, transforms elemental vocalizations into his singular digital soundscapes. A Cambient Variations transcends Ambient Music. With it's unique character and original concept, the nine tracks each head out into uncharted experimental realms - each telling a different story. Taken all together the artist is revealed in his music. - Chuck van Zyl/STAR'S END 23 October 2008.
