Time of Change
On his third album Deosil has decided on a more acoustic approach and creates a snowy landscape through the use of sampled acoustic instruments such as a hammered dulcimer, Irish pennywhistle, a 60 piece digital orchestra, 12 string guitar, and acoustic piano. This short, 35 minute album gives the listener a chance to hear new holiday oriented music that will appeal to people of all ages. Honoring the Winter Solstice is the main idea behind this album. 'The Winter Solstice marks a change in the weather as well as people's lives. It is the darkest day of the year as well as the shortest day. It is a time of celebration for everyone and I wanted to capture that idea in these songs through folklore, dancing, good times, and moments of reflection.' Drawing on influences from such well known Celtic groups as Clannad, Capercaille, and Gaelic Storm, these songs allow everyone to enjoy themselves during this (sometimes) stressful time of year. There's even a grandiose orchestral piece written to honor the Holly King, who in earth based traditions reigns from Samhain until his fall at Yule when The Oak King takes away his crown. No matter what your traditions are during the holiday season, music is one of the most important aspects of this time of year. 'A Time Of Change' should become part of your family tradition to be enjoyed year after year.
