Derge has been through a lot to get where they are today. Somehow they are still making music and rocking harder than ever. Derge is compiled of four lifelong friends: two original members, Shaun Wagner on drums and Tony Presti on guitar/vocals, along with recent additions Alex Eastenson on bass and BJ Lethal Frank on samples. Reigning from the Sonoma County region, Derge has just released their second full-length album 'Wake up'. Derge formed in the summer of 1997 and started playing shows around the Northern California area. The band recorded a couple demos. They started off by recording with producer Noah Landis (Neurosis); They then went to Pop Smear Records to record another four-song demo. About a year later they met up with Roger Tschann from Grizzly studios to record their first major independent debut, 'The Sounds of Re-Birth'. The album distributed 1000 copies throughout Northern California and was said to 'open a few eyes' by Zero magazine. Derge, then, went back to Grizzly studios and spent another year and a half writing and recording their new full-length masterpiece, 'Wake up'. Derge has played all over the California area. They have played everywhere from the respected Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma to the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles. They have also played with bands such as Dredg, Alien Ant Farm, Nuclear Rabbit and many others. You could put them on any bill with any type of band and they could fit in; Their diversity compliments them well. Derge has always been a live band, spilling out their emotions with style. These four individuals make the crowd aware that they really 'feel' the music they play. Along with their live show they have an amazing talent in the studio which really shows on their new album 'Wake up'. Derge has come a long way, but it's only just begun. 'Wake Up' is their 'masterpiece before their masterpiece' as they say. Those who can listen and appreciate good music will love this album, maybe even find it inspiring. Derge is more than a band; it's a way of life. They are like a modern day Spinal Tap, no matter what freak occurence happens they still strive on to rock, and they always find a way to rock even harder. Derge has finally found their calling, which is music. These four individuals are amazing in and out of the band.
