The Prelude was started sometime in November of 2004. It was a collaboration effort by all of the original members of Descend to release the best music of the time by all the members. It was originally designed to be a mix tape to hand out to people so that they would get a feel for the Descend Sound. Often times the basic concepts of a certain standard or a set of principles can be misinterpreted and misused resulting in the separation of unity. How is it that two people can say the exact same thing and still disagree with each other because they said it differently? The Prelude breaks down the language barrier by providing a variety of songs of the many different subgenres of Hip Hop to communicate the message of the Gospel and the lifestyle of the Believer to anyone and everyone that have been exposed to any form of Hip Hop. There are heavy Hip Hop influences in The Prelude because each member grew up on Hip Hop, originally fans of artists like Jay-Z, Wu-Tang, and Three Six Mafia to name a few, each member brings forth unique elements of expression making The Prelude arguably one of the most diverse sounding Hip Hop/Gospel group compilation in existence.
