Breath, Going Within the Within
Research has shown that relaxing ten minutes a day can strengthen the immune system, lower blood pressure and decrease anxiety. Using repetitive mental activity as shown in this CD helps shut down mind chatter and elicits a shift to peace, with peacefulness being the main objective. A way to help achieve peace in our lives would be to take the initiative daily by focusing on our breath. Before I give you an example let's take a brief look at our autonomic system. This system describes the function of our nervous system and has two distinct parts to it. One part is called the sympathetic and the other is the parasympathetic. The sympathetic part will activate the glands and organs to defend the body against attack. Whereas the parasympathetic system is concerned with healing and nourishing the body. One way you can control this system is by deep breathing. As we breathe deeply the sympathetic part turns itself off to decrease stress and help promote balance and healing. Your goal should be to keep the sympathetic part turned off as much as possible. This will allow for the maximum amount of healing to occur. Know that we also have reserves of energy within us just waiting to be used, all we have to do is become masters of our breath.
