Buy the Hook
Experimental Hard Rockers The Duncan Fish Speakers have steadily pushed the envelope with their live performances and songwriting since the release of their debut EP 'Walking The Spine' in 2006. Shown best in this new release 'Buy The Hook', their efforts have manifested themselves in songs more commercial and melodic yet more 'out' and atonal than the groups previous efforts. To craft their instantly recognizable sound, band members Jud Brown (guitar, vocals), David Reilly (Bass, vocals) and Daniel Villarreal-Carrillo (drums, percussion), have looked to their jazz, funk, Latin, and pop roots, narrowly avoiding the clichés of modern hard rock to carve out a distinct musical personality. Illinois Entertainer Review- Though the band's name is loosely derived from the "Dune" series of sci-fi novels, there's nothing futuristic about The Duncan Fishspeakers' full-length debut, Buy The Hook. It's filled with 14 eclectic yet relatively old-school hard rock numbers influenced by such acts as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush, and Steve Vai. "Relationship Command" offers a powerful prog-rock vibe, while the in-your-face guitar assault of "Face Of The Revolution" is appropriately expressive and impressive. - Jeff Berkwits.
