Portrait Berlin 1953 - 1966
The Hungarian violinist Johanna Martzy, considered one of the great hopes of her generation during the 1950s, in fact experienced a recording career that was to last a mere four years, beset as she was by doubts and introversion outweighing her longing and temptation to live a life in the limelight. She is however, a legend amongst experts; her recordings are rare collector's items. She selected her repertoire with great care and mastered it utterly; her clear, brilliant tone, without any frills, is easy to recognize. These important 1953-66 recordings stand as further testament to her talent.
