Product Notes

Flood is our second official studio album, following our self-titled debut by a year and a half. We are very proud of this album, and have put very much time and thought into it's production. It is six tracks long, just shy of half an hour of music. I would like to tell you about Flood, but first I have to tell you about Elyon's Fire. The band started in the winter of 2004, pretty much the same way most high-school bands start. Four guys huddle in a basement, turn their amps way too loud, and destroy all peace in the neighborhood for three hours a week. We played the typical gigs for friends and relatives, churches, and coffeehouses. And we practiced, three hours a week, every week. Time passed. Our success rose, but it was nothing extraordinary. A handful of our friends literally claimed we were their favorite band. We got compliments from people of all ages - adults, teens, kids. We played a show once, and I vividly remember a group of 8-year-olds hula-hooping where the mosh pit would normally be. We played another show for high-schoolers and had them all on their feet, jumping in the air. They were so close to the stage that they got us in the crowd jumping as we rocked the music. The excitement over Elyon's Fire peaked at our album release show. We had been collecting fans for three years, and they were anxiously awaiting the first official album. We printed just 100 copies of that first album, and scheduled a release party. In that first evening we sold 70 CDs, and 50 buyers wanted autographs. Our show ended in a glorious standing ovation. We were on top of our own little world! We thought we had something. We thought we were going places. Our band was always plagued with set-backs, and we always managed to overcome them. But in October 2007, we just stopped everything. There was no falling out, no decision, no ultimatum, no good reason really. We simply played a gig and never practiced again. We never officially disbanded, but months after that last gig we talked and decided to call it quits amongst ourselves and leave the public to wonder. By the way, my name is Ryan Lewis. I'm the heart of Elyon's Fire, and one of two remaining members. Now I will tell you about the flood. I am only 22, but I'm pretty sure that everyone endures a flood at least once in their life. I'm not talking about a literal flood, but rather a psychological one. It's the kind of thing that can destroy you unless you hold on tight. It's one thing failing after another. It's your life falling apart. It can throw you to drugs, to the bottle, to depression. It can threaten your belief in God and take away your hope of good things to come. It can pull you so far down that you are certain you can't go on. You feel the pressure in your chest, in your brain, even in your soul. I have seen people in life who have drowned in the flood. They are bitter and unhappy. Life takes it's toll and you can see it in their faces. But I have seen others who survive and let it carve out character in their souls. Their lives are not easier than anyone else's, yet they are happy. And happiness, now that's one of the deepest desires in all humanity. The songs on this album are a small collection of songs written during a flood in my own life. But as I wrote them I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. I did not know I was writing toward this album. One song was written in a few hours. Another was written over a few years. One was carefully written, a few lines each day. And the final track was written in dedication to my Savior, who extended His hand to save me from the turbulence. I hope you will consider purchasing this album. Maybe the music will speak to you and give you encouragement. Regardless of where you may be coming from, these songs are genuine and straight from the heart. We have put our very best into this project and we hope you appreciate it. Thank you for your time and consideration, Ryan Lewis and Elyon's Fire.
