Product Notes

Liquid Dreams is the collaboration of a female dj and a western classical musician, who both travel back and forth between the hemispheres, and it might be one of the few albums that successfully fuses Indian vibes with western music. India is a continent which developed for thousands of years independently from the West. Part of the eternal fascination of India is that it has been devoted for thousands of years to meditation and introspection and that the depth of it's music that comes from this space is unparalleled anywhere in the world. The live instruments are scored against a background of electronica, and include the bamboo flute, tabla, voice, violin and piano, and are all performed by first rate, passionate musicians. One single note of the magnificent flute can be like a soul massage that causes goose bumps in you. Ma Faiza & Veet Sandeh have fresh, new ideas on making music which encompasses the roots of Indian sounds, with acoustic instruments scored to an orchestral context, in an attempt to translate the essence of Indian music into the 21st century expression of electronica. The innocence in this partnership of musical expression has a magical quality and deeply touches the heart of the listener, transcending any artificialness that is found too often in electronic music and allowing an experience of pure emotion and sensuality... This album seduces the listener into a sacred space. It is a one hour journey uninterrupted till the last second, which takes you through it's realms and leaves you in a peaceful state of lucid awareness. Think of Dark Side Of The Moon Meets India. Listen and be inspired........ Artist profile : Ma Faiza She is a taste of the exotic, and participates in some of the most cutting-edge concepts in sound, vision and experience. For almost a decade her dj-ing has taken her around the world, and has been leading the global club and festival scene with her music mixture of Indian-fusion, ambient, electronic based dance music and psychedelica. Born in Africa and raised in London the dj, artist and producer is a real global player. Apart from dj-ing internationally and madly travelling around the world playing at some of the biggest parties and festivals on the planet, she also works as Head of Artist & Product Development for Masti Music, and contributes to several global publications. After leaving London for India in 1995, she realized her soul connection to her motherland, and her deep sense of belonging. While meeting people from all over the world in India, she discovered her ability to connect people to music by creating musical journeys, through compilations. She was a pioneer in sourcing world music, ambient, trance, and Indian fusion before these words were even coined. She became a major inspiration for countless music lovers across the world, many of whom were unable to find such a collection of music like hers, and was instrumental in helping to define the growing electronic-fused music scene evolving in India. Throughout the years, she worked as a scout to discover new, exciting Indian and asian music, and to bring new the electronic sounds of the future to the emerging Indian scene. She devoted most of her energy to finding great music and started to experience a growing need to express herself with making music. She felt it was the time to get creative and join up with other artists and begin to produce music together. Ma Faiza's very first collaboration with Solar Quest in London, resulted in a track called Ananda, which has been released on many compilations worldwide. In 2003 she met the Global Gypsies in India and took them on a small tour including her dj-ing with their live performances. With them, and especially with band-member Veet Sandeh, she developed a very strong connection which resulted in a wonderful musical collaboration. Together with Veet Sandeh, Ma Faiza combined the gypsies-melange of Spanish and Indian sounds with her taste for electronica, smooth grooves with real soul and fine class have developed, and show the passion that she has for her homeland and that invite the listener to an inspiring tour of India. Her colourful acoustic and imaginative music brings up deep emotion and sensuality... 'My passion for music has been the undercurrent of my life...as a child in the early seventies my most favourite time was alone with music - songs and melodies that filled me with life, celebration, deep emotions and positive energy, in my late teens I was absorbed by the electronic sound emerging from the pop music scene...I guess I always knew I would devote my energy to music...and for me, music is the universal human language....' Veet Sandeh The colourful musical journey of Veet, which still takes unexpected turns even today, started off with a strong foundation in classical as well as Spanish / Flamenco music. Already from the age of 16, he took part in recordings on the radio, recorded vinyl and later CDs. He soon performed all over Europe taking part in music festivals in Spain, Italy and Bulgaria. In 1995, he was invited on a month tour of Japan. His search for new dimensions of music led him to India, where he actually found the deeper roots of Flamenco. Flamenco is the music of the Gypsies who initially came from India. Whilst there, he studied the sitar with Ustad Usman Khan and has written music for an album with Hariprasad Chaurasia. Travelling from Spanish Flamenco to India made the musical journey complete, and a full circle was finished by founding the Global Gypsies, a band that combined Spanish and Indian music. They were supported on an Indian tour by the German Goethe Institute, and a European tour also solidified the bands reputation to create the most enjoyable blend of east and west. A joint tour with Ma Faiza and the Global Gypsies widened the musical horizon to the electronic shores. Spontaneously improvising over ambient tracks opened the eyes of the band members to the rich world of electronica. Chant's of India, the bamboo flute, tablas and other percussive instruments were scored to an orchestral context in an attempt to translate the essence of Indian music into the 21century. Veet Sandeh has been recording and mixing his own albums for the last 6 years. 'Global Gypsies' is an acoustic recording with bamboo flute, tabla, percussion and guitar. Other albums are guitar recordings like ' Amparo: Music of South America ', ' Valses Poeticos: Music of Spain ' or ' Live ' Concert recordings (guitar solo). 'Travels in Sound and Silence' is currently in the catalogue of Times Music.
