'Skybound' is the second full-length release from Philadelphia-born, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Faye Davis. Things are quite a bit different the second time around ... In the time between releases, Davis' sound and style have strikingly broadened and blossomed. With 'Skybound' Davis reminds us of what the '70's-era singer/songwriters held to: criss-crossing genre and mood, blending classic sounds with those more fresh and current, singing with abandon one moment and with the bone-chilling touch of a feather the next... A vehement purist, Faye intentionally side-stepped the present industry standards of auto-tuned vocals and mechanically quantized production. Enlisting the help of fellow singer/songwriter Mike Neal for his guitar and bass-playing prowess and drummer Philippe Aubuchon, Davis' songs are fully developed, resulting in a beautifully pure work of art that sparkles with honesty and intriguing variety. Though not a concept album in the traditional sense, the title 'Skybound' is a natural fit to both Davis' expansive voice and her songs' themes of growth, liberation, truth and transcendence. Faye Davis was drawn to writing and recording music from the time her age grew from single to double-digits. Though two years of piano lessons and filling a soprano chair in her neighborhood church's choir were the extent of Faye's formal training, she devoted many a stolen hour over the years to personally developing her voice, ear and taste for music.
