Festive Brass is an ensemble of Philadelphia area musicians who specialize in the performance of brass music from the 16th century to the present. With a blend of imagination, musical courage and skill, they handle the moods and nuances of their programs with versatility that not only delights audiences, but re-defines the subtlety and liveliness of the sound of brass. One reviewer described a Festive Brass performance as follows: '...(an) impressive concert (by) Festive Brass, a group that plays the music of Handel and Scott Joplin with equal skill.' 'The Festive Brass for All Seasons' starts out with six classical pieces which could be performed on a formal fall concert, then moves to six popular pieces which might be appropriate for a spring or summer concert, and finishes with eight Christmas or sacred selections which are performed in the winter season. In live concerts, the Festive Brass often performs both the classical and popular repertoire on the same concert. The musicians featured on this album are: Barbara Prugh, Nancy Dowlin, trumpet; Robert Gale, Debra Taylor, trombone; Joan Dowlin, French horn; and Peter Krill, tuba.
