It's Hot (About 3 Weeks a Year)
The Fireants 6 was a trio, became a quartet, and is now a sextet. In all these incarnations we've played musics that come from dance traditions throughout the Americas. Music is for us both a respite and an inspiration--politics without ideology and religion without doctrine. It's also deep pleasure-we play because it makes us happy and we hope that our playing can bring happiness to others. It's Hot includes Cajun and Creole two steps and a waltz from Louisiana, two conjunto polkas from Texas, a bolero, huapango, and cumbia from Mexico (with a little Cuban montuno), a cumbia from Colombia, two Anglo American swing tunes, Fever, a calypso from Trinidad, and an homage to mashed potatoes. It's for dancing and if you're committed, there's no wrong way to dance.
