Bluebird Vs. Redbird
Catchy male and female hooks, driving beats, reverb-saturated guitars, 80's era synthesizers, bright bells, Steinway piano, and epic crescendos define Fractured Army's sound. The band was formed in the late fall of 2007 by Kory Kunze (vocals, guitars, piano) and Kyle Meyer (keyboards, synthesizers). Kunze and Meyer previously performed together in the alternative country band, Trailer Park Travoltas, as lead guitarist and bassist. Reunited by a common love of the keyboard-soaked, post-punk music of the 80's and today's indie pop song, Kunze and Meyer started writing together. After an unsuccessful search for a vocalist and keyboardist, Kunze took the helm at the mic, and Meyer, who was playing bass at the time, switched to keyboards when bassist Rod Campbell (formerly of San Diego's ambient Via Satellite) was found. Drummer David Paul was coaxed into coming on board at the same time as Campbell, and Jessica Spitzer (vocals, bells, additional percussion) joined the group a few weeks later. Headquartered in the shadow of St. Louis's haunted Lemp Brewery, the band created and developed their sound, and continued to perform regionally. In January of 2009, they recorded their debut EP, Bluebird vs. Redbird. STLToday: 'Driving, melodic pop...a nice pickup for your collection. The 1980s-inspired songs shimmer with lots of keyboards, bells and hand claps. Singer/guitarist Kory Kunze not only owns a super kool double-K name, but an earnest baritone that plays nicely with Jessica Spitzer's vocals. Think Joy Division minus a lot of darkness.'
