Off is the first official record release by the Brooklyn based Fully Automatic Universe (FAU). Off was recorded by Ben Rice at Newkirk Studios and features 12 original compositions by the band. FAU's musical chops and songwriting skills are on display here; the songs vary from straight-ahead rockers powered by frenetic beats and crazy rhythms to tasty slabs of hooky guitar pop to moody and hypnotic excursions into space. There is fine singing from each member of the band, and the whole company weighs in for some rousing choruses. Off finds it's inspiration in the guitar-driven post-punk styles of the 1980's and '90's, blending those influences with the band's personality into a unique sound that defies categorization. FAU obviously takes their music seriously, but they also like to have fun while kicking out the jams. Off is a mature statement from a band that has been around the block but still has a few tricks up it's collective sleeve. FAU includes Dominic Gagliano (guitar/vocals), Tom Murray (guitar/vocals), Yumi Tagawa (bass/vocals), and John McGowan (drums/vocals).
