Nectar for the Hectic
Nectar for the Hectic was the result of, well, a lot of hectic moving around the country for Garfunkle. Graduated, moved 3000 miles, 8 months later reversed those 3000 miles, started working in science. Nas was half-man, half-amazing. The two halves of Garfunkle were scientist and the guy who left the lab and went back to the lab to create Nectar. So here you go. The music on here has Garfunkle developing some fairly straightforward sampling techniques ('No. 4,' 'Choosing a Path...,' 'Getting a Good Start'), but at the same time moving farther and farther away from what might be called hip-hop. Well, ok, now that's out of the way. Don't worry, there are big drums, there is some fine fine turntablism from DJ Image ('It Was Probably Fine'), there is even a verse from Garfunkle on 'Just one Thing.' But then, there's a harmonica on 'Just one Thing,' too. There are also strange keyboards, processed and off-beat drums, a few doses of melancholy, and a little bit of drum and bass here and there. Check 'The Process' and 'Now They're Here' for some short samples of what's going on here. It's about moving forward. Ok, I know, I know. I hate these pretentious write-ups about music. Dance around, here is some architecture you will like.
