Gates of Dissent
Gates of Dissent represents an incomplete yet honest depiction of personal feelings and paradigms. Based on the belief that it is imperative to fully acknowledge all points of view as valid or at least worth debating the values of. It is through constant questioning of our own beliefs and by keeping an unbiased attitutude towards knowledge, that we can validate our paths to the extent of being wholly aware of what belief is concurrently perfect for our selves. It is also through this constant questioning that we deny ourselves the unnecesary and detrimental position of egotistical validation. By always being aware and understanding of the various possible beliefs, and therefore never being resolutely tied to one self, we can be sure that what we believe in is the most appropriate paradigm for our personas. 'This period in my life is initiating an understanding of what identity and ego mean to me. I have become very dedicated to releasing my mind from the binds that an ego represents without becoming abstracted from personality. It is only a limitation to ourselves to allow prejudicial and stubborn beliefs.' - Gates of Dissent This album revolves mainly around the concept of identity and the complexities of what we discern as 'self.' It delves specifically into personal questioning of self and paths into the destruction and breakdown of ego. Though the intention on a larger scale is a positive one, it can be a very difficult and dangerous process to take apart your own beliefs and the stability of who you have come to see yourself as. Personalities can become merely stubborn frameworks in the face of an egotistical mindset. This album is a reflection on the effects disorder has on personality, as well as the limitations our identities and stubborn beliefs cause us in pursuit of finding our true selves. Emotionally, the album represents to me the ups and downs of living and the struggle to keep a balance whilst breaking the chains that would maintain our hold on reality.
