Together, the hymns on this disc go a long way toward telling the greatest story there ever was to tell. That story encompasses all space and time, extending infinitely beyond all human comprehension. It is a story that will never come to an end: of the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who made all things, is above all things, and sustains all things; of His relationship with the world He made and all creatures that dwell in it. And thus it is also the story of you and me: of our frailty and transience; of our seventy or so years if we're lucky, and what it all means. It's the story of what we're made to do, and why we can't ever do it; the story of our need, and who alone is able to meet it. This is the story found in the Holy Bible, the very word of God to man. Hymn writers throughout the ages have taken themes and portions from the Biblical story and set them to song so that worshipers can better understand the nature of God, their place in His world, and the response they should have to Him. At Church of the Good Shepherd in Bloomington, Indiana, we regularly sing these hymns and others like them to immerse ourselves in the glorious hope of God's promises to His people and the story of His redemptive work on our behalf. We sing them to God who is worthy of all praise, to ourselves to remember our need of Him, and to one another to spur the church on to love and good deeds. Whenever you're in Bloomington we invite you to join with us as we raise our voices in thankfulness to the Lord of Hosts.
