My name is Guster Baines and I met Joe Kubiski a few years ago at the 25th anniversary of Woodstock. I first saw him play on Friday night after Arlo Guthrie and it was awesome how the audience of about 7,000 fans was fired up by his song Freedom Ride. Everybody was singing after the first chorus and it was clear to me then that his songs had a real groovy feel about them. Well it's been 11 years since the 25th anniversary and finally Joe has decided to record and release his first album with the help of Producer Bill Davis and an incredible group of musicians from NEPA. The Grain was founded in January of 2005 by Joe Kubiski of Wilkes Barre and Tony Blue from Baltimore, Maryland. Joe met Tony while jamming with Charlie's Stupid Band in a Wilkes Barre jam room in 2004. Tony and Joe had gone through many auditions with drummers, guitar players and keyboard players before The Grain was born. The first member of the band was Bob Scorey who had just returned from London and was on his way to LA when he and Joe ran into each other at a local club after The Greg Allman concert. They scheduled some time to jam in the future and that's when Bob mentioned a friend of his named Jesse Ruppert and asked Joe if he could sit in. Naturally without hesitation Joe and Tony would never pass up an opportunity to jam with someone. We met at a rehearsal room in Wilkes Barre on an unseasonably warm January evening with a twelve pack and an unsure expectation of what was about to happen. It didn't take long to realize that these two musicians were the guys we had been looking for. The magic didn't stop there, it had continued with the arrival of our percussionist Jason Stefanski a life long friend of Bob and Jesse. The band rehearsed, recorded and finished the album in just under 3 months. The band started getting a little nervous when they could not find the right keyboard player who fit into the mix until a hot July night presented one of the grooviest dudes in the band. Fares Houssein has brought a cool vibe to the band with his always-happy attitude and musical perspective to our classic sound. 'The Grain' is the band to see this year and the album is a must have for your collection. Stay connected and plugged in as this band begins an incredible journey.
