Product Notes

Formed in September of 2000, the Hamilton Duo presents recitals in the Eastern and Midwestern United States. Dedicated to exploring the finest repertoire for flute and piano, the duo also has an active interest in expanding their repertoire through transcriptions of favorite works. The CD 'Romantic Treasures' highlights Nineteenth-century masterpieces. With over 70 minutes of music, the CD includes the Sonata 'Undine' by Carl Reinecke, one of the few significant Romantic period works originally scored for flute and piano. Additionally, the CD features a transcription of the Sonata in A minor by Franz Schubert (originally written for the now-obsolete arpeggione, and usually heard on cello or viola), as well as a transcription of the Sonata in A major by César Franck (originally for violin and piano). About the artists... Kelly McDermott, flutist, has concertized throughout the United States and performs regularly as Artist-Master Class clinician on college campuses. She has appeared live on TV and radio, including WNYC in New York City. The Hontz-McDermott duo (flute and guitar) has won special presentation prizes at the Artists International Competition and has released a CD, 'Paseos.' Ms. McDermott has degrees in flute performance from Michigan State University and Temple University, and has studied at the Aspen, Teton, and Sarasota Music Festivals, as well as the William Bennett Class in England. Her teachers in flute studies were Murray Panitz, Renee Siebert, Kazuo Tokito, and Italian soloist Marzio Conti. Ms. McDermott performs regularly with the Harrisburg Symphony and with chamber groups in the Philadelphia area, from Baroque to Modern ensembles. She also maintains a private teaching studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Michael Sheadel has performed in the United States and Europe as both soloist and collaborative pianist. He has appeared as ensemble pianist with the Chestnut Brass Company, Encore Chamber Players, Hildegard Chamber Players, Network for New Music, and Orchestra 2001. Dr. Sheadel earned degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music, the Peabody Conservatory, and Temple University. His principal teachers were Maria Luisa Faini, Walter Hautzig, and Harvey Wedeen. Fomerly a member of the piano faculty at Temple University, he teaches piano and coaches chamber music for the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia's Settlement Music School.
