The exceptional Spanish counter-tenor Xavier Sabata expresses tears, joy and rage in his portrayal of the 'bad boys' from Handel's operas on this riveting new disc from Aparte. Performing a fascinating selection of arias from Tamerlano, Ariodante, Teseo, Amadigi di Gaula, Giulio Cesare and Ottone, Sabata is accompanied by the Italian ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro conducted by Riccardo Minasi. Born in Barcelona in 1976, Sabata graduated in drama from the Theatre Institute in his hometown and studied with the famous duo of Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Holl. He also took master classes with Montserrat Figueras, Richard Levitt and Christoph Pregardien. Sabata's upcoming engagements include roles at the Royal Opera Oviedo, the Megaron in Athens, the Theater an der Wien and the Royal Opera of Versailles.
