Ciao to the Beauty
Introducing Harkness, an exciting new multi-media band headed by Steve Marrs. The music has been described as ' Stravinsky colliding with John Lennon' and the live show is like nothing else out there! Marrs, a musical prodigy, began piano at the age of two and played his first recital a year later. As a junior in High School he was recruited to play in the Senior Jazz Combo. Performing original compostions by Marrs, the Jazz Combo were awarded the highest marks in competition history at the Canadian Stage Band Festival. While living in Europe, Nicolette of Massive Attack fame discovered Marrs' multiple talents and called upon him to help with studio collaborations and extensive touring. By now Steve Marrs has written hundreds of songs and has developed a virtuosic orchestration and writing style. ' Toronto musician Steve Marrs has a gift for composing dynamic pop tunes similar in spirit to some of the Flaming Lips catchiest, weirdest and most fantastical numbers. Harkness' single 'Ciao To The Beauty' is nothing short of brilliant signature material.' EXCLAIM MAGAZINE ' Harkness is among that rare breed of bands I'll likely never tire of seeing live. Guitarist/vocalist Steve Marrs leads the seven piece ensemble through deceptively complex, yet consistently melodic arrangements in the classically reverent pop epic spirit of XTC's andy Partridge.' Chuck Molgat CKLN Radio ' Harkness masterfully executes a massive exhibition of popunklesmusophisticastrophy. I LOVE IT! ' Brendan McGuire Grammy award winning Producer / Sam Roberts / Sloan The Harkness 'Ciao To The Beauty' c.d. captures over 30 different musicians ( tuba, steel drums, bassoons, strings, horns, marimba and more...) and features Steve Marrs on vocals, bass, guitar and drums. All other instruments are organic and not sampled, played by local musicians.
